Ever seen The Darling Buds of May? There is a very young Catherine Zeta Jones in that and after her character's marriage, she wears the most sublime 1950s dresses and suits.
No I haven't but thanks for the tip, I'm always looking out for more inspiring movies (can't thank you enough for telling me about Anne of a thousand days. Chnaging subject: Since we're only stayin three days and bringin all the kids I guess we won't meet up this time I go to London. My hope is that I will be able to go alone for a few days in October though; maybe then?
Darling Buds of May is based on a book (possibly series?) from the 1950s and is a miniseries. It is a lovely vignette of 1950s life on a farm - with a twist! Wonderfully eccentric in that peculiarly English way!
If you like Anne then try the "sister" film, Mary, Queen of Scots. And look out for a fantastic reference to a scene in Anne. I shan't say any more!
Perhaps we could meet up in London in October. No idea what I am doing then but so far nothing much.
You are so 50'ies looking in that photo. :) I think I must remember to show you my 50'ies patternbook I found at a flea market. I don't think I've show it to you. It's a sort of ruler that is added to a regular measuring tape and using that all sorts of patterns supposedly will be created. I've never had time to test it and I've lended my copies of the patterns to Åsa, but once I have them back maybe we could try it out?
I love your new dress-it's perfect for London's change-around Spring weather. Back in the day, we stuffed our petticoat in an old stocking - cut the foot off and hold the the petticoat and pull the stocking over it....tie a loose knot in each end, loose - because Customs will be sure to check it for contraband. When you want to wear it pull the stocking off, shake it and wear. Save the stocking for your trip home. Enjoy yourself! Devon (A Dress a Day's mom)
What a beautiful dress! I just followed the link from Dress A Day.
You could wear the petticoat on the plane, either with that dress or another dress. And wear it on the way home. That way, you won't have to worry about packing it.

You definitely have a 1950s figure.
